About Action for Better Access

Founded in the 1980's the Charity's purpose is to act on behalf of the disabled in Variety, and to establish access awareness wherever needed. i.e. Buildings, Banks, Public Transport, Tourism, Restaurants and issues such as Drop Kerbs, Parking etc.

ABA aims to support other Disability Groups in order to achieve parity in the wider community.

We wholeheartedly support the 1995 Disability Act

To this aim we designed the 'Six Star Merit Rating Scheme'. This offers an Audit to advise 'resonable' changes to premises, and a 'Star Rating' certificate that would in principle be simple to understand. The higher the rating the better the facilities.

Most companies were reluctant to spend money in order to make changes. However, now that the honeymoon period is over, part three of the law can now be enforced. Everyone in the Goods and Services Industry will need to make these 'reasonable' changes to avoid being found guilty of dicrimination against Disabled people.

We are working closely with Council Authorities.

Our main purpose is to act in ALL parties interests to bring about equal oportunity for the Disabled as well as Able bodied people. Hopefully most caring people will feel this way.
